MARY OF NAZARETH
I am mystery,
rebel,
mother,
refugee,
a voice crying out compassion
in the face of cruelty,
human misery.
I am Mary of Nazareth,
I sing my reckless trust,
my ache,
confusion.
Mine are the dirges any mother sings
whose child is cut
down too young.
I sing
of dashed dreams
that turned to diamonds.
I was young and hopeful,
the future danced in my eyes!
I always [...]

Love Lockdown
Kanye, my dear, you are too good sometimes…you play with my emotions and my dance moves like a cat plays with a human with yarn. Never have I ever danced to music with such conviction until hearing your stuff. Pop and snap like it’s the gospel, that’s what Kanye evokes from me through his music. [...]

Tinsel Me Tender
Ode to my golden-clad alter-ego…my mother actually wore this “tinsel wonder suit” to an Amway function back in the 90’s. ! I know. We were in Amway and we were Diamonds, one of the lovely levels on the covert pyramid…this needs to be talked about, in therapy or something. For now here is me in [...]

The Questionable Amniotic Gaze: Parte A
Public arenas often often often hold my gaping eyes as I locate a person, couple, or group who bear either a semblance of exhibitionism or quiet conundrums or odd beauty as they interact with each other or their self. My eye exploration is usually interrupted by the person who has accompanied me and many times [...]

The Streets Have No Name
My friend Eric Dunker took this photo during the Obama Rally. This is a major Chicago street intersection (I think Michigan Ave & Jackson) completely unknown because of the thousands upon thousands of faces. Kind of astounding.
postscript: one of my favorite series of sculptures in Chicago is in this photo…upper left hand corner. beauty.

In light of history.
In light of humanity and the ‘morrow
